“Tracks” is an American drama film directed by Henry Jaglom and starring Dennis Hopper, Taryn Power and Dean Stockwell. It was released in 1976 and received mixed reviews from critics. The film tells the story of Jack, a Vietnam veteran who has to escort the coffin of his friend David, who died in combat, across the country by train. Along the way, he meets various people who affect his journey, such as Mark, a fellow veteran who tries to help him cope with his trauma, Stephanie, a college student who falls in love with him, and Chet, a hippie who challenges his views on the war. The film explores the themes of grief, alienation, madness and violence, as well as the impact of the Vietnam War on the American society and psyche. He realizes that he has been living in a delusion and that he has no purpose or direction in life. He breaks down and screams in despair.
