“The Hills Have Eyes” is a horror film directed by Alexandre Aja and based on the 1977 film of the same name by Wes Craven. It tells the story of a family who are attacked by a group of mutated cannibals in the New Mexico desert. The film stars Aaron Stanford, Kathleen Quinlan, Vinessa Shaw, Emilie de Ravin, Dan Byrd, Robert Joy, and Ted Levine. The film begins with a group of scientists being killed by an unseen force in the desert. The scene then shifts to the Carter family, who are traveling across the country to celebrate their parents’ 30th wedding anniversary. They stop at a gas station, where an old man named Jeb advises them to take a shortcut through the hills. However, this turns out to be a trap, as Jeb is in league with the cannibals who live in the hills. The family’s trailer is stranded in the middle of the desert after their tires are punctured by a hidden spike strip. The cannibals then launch a brutal assault on the family, killing some of them and kidnapping others. The survivors are forced to fight for their lives against the savage attackers, who are the result of genetic mutations caused by nuclear testing in the area. The film ends with a bloody showdown between the remaining family members and the cannibals. Doug, who has rescued his baby daughter from the cannibals’ lair, kills their leader, Jupiter, with an axe. Brenda and Bobby kill another cannibal, Lizard, with an explosive trap. Ruby, a sympathetic cannibal who helped Doug and his baby escape, sacrifices herself to save them from her brother, Pluto. The film closes with Doug reuniting with Brenda and Bobby at the trailer, while Beast, their German shepherd dog who also survived the ordeal, barks at the hills.
